Leading the way in cleaner energy transport

Gazelle is redefining sustainability in crude hauling with one of California’s largest renewable natural gas fleets and a commitment to continuous innovation, real-world testing, and measurable emissions reduction.

Investing early to reduce emissions at scale

Gazelle has spent years transforming its fleet to operate more cleanly and efficiently, long before it became industry standard. Over half of our trucks now run on renewable natural gas (RNG), dramatically lowering emissions and stabilizing fuel prices to directly benefit our customers. Because a single diesel truck can emit as much nitrous oxide as 10 to 20 natural gas trucks, this shift meaningfully reduces our environmental footprint across California’s oil regions and the communities in which we live and work.

Innovation rooted in real-world testing

Gazelle approaches sustainability with a long-term, operational mindset. We invest early, test carefully, and make decisions based on real-world performance. That approach led us to be the first crude-hauling company in California to deploy CNG-powered trucks, while evaluating emerging vehicle technologies as regulations evolve. By proactively testing what may be required in the future by the California Air Resources Board Advanced Clean Fleets (ACF) regulations, including electric trucks, we ensure our operations remain compliant and our customers remain protected from disruption. Today, renewable natural gas offers the most reliable and responsible path forward, allowing us to reduce emissions while continuing to deliver consistent, high-value service to the oil and gas industry we proudly support.

Our Journey

We continue to succeed and grow unless we remember where we came from.

How we started

1992

Gazelle Transportation was founded in October 1992 by Jerry Eiler who purchased the assets of a small Bakersfield based hazardous waste hauler to form the company.

1993

In April 1993, Ron Lallo joined the Gazelle team as a mechanic. Ron steadily rose through the Gazelle Organization to General Manager and then President. Ron was able to exercise stock options and ultimately purchase Gazelle.

1993

1998

The company made the decision to narrow its focus to crude oil transportation in California, allowing for growth opportunities in this niche market. To facilitate this growth, Gazelle purchased the transportation assets of two key crude gathering companies in California, EOTT and Texaco Trading and Transportation.

2004

Ron Lallo exercised his option to purchase the company from Jerry Eiler, becoming the sole shareholder. During this time, Gazelle trademarked the slogan: Safely Delivering America’s Energy® and became a nationally respected and sought-after crude oil transportation company.

2009

Gazelle grew from 30 trucks to almost 200, with 500 employees. Revenue grew from $5.5MM to $62MM.

2015

In 2015, Gazelle began to feel the effects of the oil industry economic downturn and explored private equity opportunities.

2015

2016

In 2016, Gazelle partnered with private equity to help restructure the company to facilitate continued growth. In 2020, Ron departed from daily operations, while maintaining a minority ownership position in the company

2022

In September 2022, Ron Lallo purchased the remaining shares from private equity and returned as CEO to once again lead the organization as the sole share holder of Gazelle Transportation.

2022

2023

Growth continues

As Gazelle enters 2023, we are focused on evolving into an energy service company of the future. Today, our long-time core values of Safety, Quality, Technology and especially environment, are more important now than ever before. We genuinely believe that our best days are still ahead!

Measured impact

Gazelle’s sustainability commitments are backed by proven progress. As our fleet transitions to renewable natural gas and other advanced technologies, we regularly track and report on reductions in emissions, fuel consumption, and environmental impact.

RNG fleet growth

More than half of Gazelle’s trucks now operate on renewable natural gas, with fleet conversion increasing each year.

Emission reductions

Our transition to RNG significantly reduces nitrous oxide and greenhouse gas emissions compared to diesel.

Reduced idle time

Advanced routing, driver coaching tools, and equipment upgrades help minimize idle time, which is one of the biggest contributors to unnecessary emissions in heavy-duty fleets.

Annual reporting

Gazelle publishes annual sustainability metrics to maintain transparency and track progress toward near-zero emissions.

Gazelle Truck Fleet

Cleaner operations that deliver cost stability

Gazelle’s sustainability strategy strengthens both environmental performance and customer value. With more than half of our fleet now powered by renewable natural gas—the cleanest and most economically stable heavy-duty fuel available—we reduce exposure to diesel price volatility, one of the industry’s largest operating costs. As we progress toward a near-zero-emission fleet, our customers benefit from cleaner operations, greater predictability, and consistently competitive service.
